Escape to the Chinese New Year 2011 Celebration

Living in Indonesia, Jakarta especially, is a wonderful experience. Many culture I could find here. And many celebration of ethnic and religion I could find and visit.
Chinese New Year celebration, known well as Imlek, is one of the celebration.
 
A few days before this Chinese New Year celebration, Jakarta Escape decide to visit Glodok area. The area known well as one of China Town in Jakarta. Just by taxi and ask the driver to drop us in the Glodok Kota, which consider in Central of Jakarta.
After pay the taxi, by walking I trying to looking for gang way named "Petak Sembilan". Walking in this alley really new experience for me. Many of China New Year props sell along the way.

Once we arrive in the monastery, I saw some of the residents of Chinese generation looked so busy to do some prayer preparation around the monastery of "Kim Tek Ie".

For Prosperity, Blessing and Graceful | In Thursday morning, February 3, 2011, on the first day of the Chinese new year 2562, most of the Chinese residents continued to pray in the Kim Tek Ie monastery.
In their prayer, they hope for blessing and prosperity in the beginning of the new Chinese year 2562, the year of the Rabbit.

Escape to Fatahillah Plaza, The Jakarta History Museum

In that day, Fatahillah Musem and its plaza become an interesting place to visit. Just for hang out or with for some specific purpose such as museum visit and for photograph activity.

Jakarta Escape decide to explore this historical site and try to capture all activities around this area.
The place really easy to access from anywhere in Jakarta even from outside Jakarta, such as Bekasi and Bogor. It could reached by Bus Way line. Just say so that the Jakarta Kota bus stop is our stop point.
Or we could use commuter train line and stop in the final station in Jakarta Kota Station / Beos Station. Ask people around here about Fatahillah museum they will show us the direction. By walking distance is not so far from both train station and bus way stop.

Once we arrive, we could find many hawkers selling their stuff. And also some couples spend their time here.
In that day, the rental old bicycle become popular. In Indonesia the old bicycle has specific call, "Onthel" bicycle. The services that the rental man want to offer is bring an experience of Dutch colonial era to their customer.



Another performance show can find here is "Reog", the tradisional performance came from East Java actually.
Some part of the Reog performer show their skill to split out fire from their mouth. Some shown their acrobatic skill.

For me the most interesting part here is the Architecture of Dutch colonial. Spend 2 to 3 hours here is enough. And try to stay there until sunset come. Buy some food from the hawker and we could enjoy the sunset time with it. We could see the sky become reddish.
