Muara Angke is a traditional port for fishing boat located in the north of Jakarta.
Also known as a commuter port from / to some islands in Thousand Island (Kepulauan Seribu) in Java sea.
Inspired by the people, the way they live and the traditional fisher boat, I did small research about this place. And on the 9th May 2010 I went there with my friends.
How to get there?
We can hire taxi from the Jakarta downtown. Ask to the driver to drive you to the Pluit area. And specifically mention your destination: Pelabuhan Muara Angke (Muara Angke Por).
If you have limited budget, just go to Pluit area by Transway / Busway. When you arrive there, continue to Muara Angke port by local transportation "angkot" which can identify by its red color.
Or if you need our assist just send me an email to: sambodo.msr@gmail.com. :D
The best time to come
Better come to Muara Angke is in the morning, around 9 am. We can see many people still doing their activity.
Now we want to move to the other place, the fish market were located not to far from this port. Many option to go there, by walking, bajaj (the specific iconic Jakarta transportation), by "becak" / pedicab or by bicycle taxi. Bicycle taxi is our final chosen.
Below here are some people I met in the fish market.
